Do you paint, alter or trim cards?
No. At The Card Clinic, we believe in preserving the hobby and keeping cards authentic. We do not paint, recolour, trim, reshape, or otherwise alter cards to artificially improve their appearance or grading potential.
The only exceptions is carefully straightening cards that have become bowed or warped due to temperature or storage conditions and also corner and side of cards improvements. A restoration process designed to return the card to its natural shape, rather than alter or enhance the card.
Our goal is to work with the card as it is and bring out its best possible condition, using careful cleaning and preservation techniques rather than changing the card itself.
We also avoid harsh or specialist liquids and sprays sometimes used online to treat cards. These can be extremely risky and, if used incorrectly, may cause defects, surface damage, discolouration, or other issues that can negatively affect a card's condition and grading potential.
Our philosophy is simple: preserve the card, don't alter it. We want to help collectors get the best possible result while keeping their cards genuine and true to the hobby.
Do you guarantee a grade?
No. We never guarantee a specific grade. While professional cleaning can improve the presentation and condition of a card, the final grade is determined entirely by the grading company and their assessment criteria.
Our goal is to clean and prepare your cards as carefully as possible, giving them the best possible presentation without making any promises about the outcome. Factors such as centering, print quality, corners, edges, and surface defects can all affect the final grade and may be outside the scope of cleaning.
How should I send my card to the Card Clinic?
Please package your card carefully to protect it during transit. We recommend placing the card in a penny sleeve and a rigid card holder/top loader, then securing it inside a padded envelope or small box with plenty of protection.
Make sure the card cannot move around inside the package, and avoid sending it loose or in an unprotected envelope.
Why is card care for cards over £75 more expensive?
This is due to insurance purposes. We prioritise protecting the card and ensuring your high-value assets are fully secure and covered at all stages of our premium care and preparation process.
